From Mrs. Parisi

Hi everyone,

I’m going to start posting a word problem for each grade level every week. Some may be easy for you, others may be challenging. I want to see how you are using your math brains to solve the problems. Remember, make sure to show your work however you can. I need to see your thinking on the paper! When you solve the problem, email me a picture of your solution to parisir@lynnschools.org

Please make sure that you put your name, the date and your teacher’s name on your paper so that I know who you are. If you can’t send a picture to me, save the paper you solved the problem on and bring it to me when we get back to school. I’m excited to see how each of you solved each math problem. Remember, there’s not one right way to solve, as long as you show your work!

Kindergarten

Mrs. Parisi found 6 crayons. Show a group that has one more than six.

Grade 1

Mrs. Parisi and Shadow collected objects while taking a walk one day. Mrs. Parisi collected 12 rocks and Shadow collected 3 sticks. How many more objects did Mrs. Parisi collect than Shadow collected?

Grade 2

On a rainy day, Mrs. Parisi counted 215 raindrops on her living room window. Mr. Parisi counted 396 raindrops on the kitchen window. How many raindrops did they see on their windows?

Grade 3

Mrs. Parisi and Shadow left for a walk at 10:20. When they got back home, it was 11:35. How long were Mrs. Parisi and Shadow gone on their walk?

Grade 4

Mrs. Parisi is replacing the fence in her backyard. The sides of the fence are 30 feet, 45 feet, 27 feet and x feet. If the total perimeter of Mrs. Parisi’s backyard is 148 feet. How long is the x side of the fence?

Grade 5

Mrs. Parisi bought a package of 36 rolls of toilet paper. She gave 1/6 of the rolls to her grandmother. She gave 12 rolls to her parents. She gave 1/12 of the rolls to a friend who needed some. The rest of the rolls she kept for herself. How many rolls of toilet paper did each group get?
